Assignment 2: "Photorealism Graphite (pencil) Drawing" DUE DATE: Friday, March 4th
This assignment is purely about graphite and shading technique as well as using a photo reference appropriately. For this assignment you must choose a photographic reference of an object or person and create a fully rendered drawing using pencils only. You may use a variety of drawing pencils such as HB->B->2B->4B->6B etc. You must show a RANGE of values from the whitest white of the paper, through the grays of the pencils, and to the darkest values of shadows represented by the object.
Task:
1. Choose a photographic reference, Crop the reference into a dynamic composition if necessary. (Final outcome must break at least three sides of the composition). Print your photographic reference and tape it next to your drawing page in your sketchbook. (You may want to google search "black and white photography" or "black and white photography objects" or "photography still-life." Turn color images to a black and white print. Although black and white photography may give you a better range of values to look at.
2. You may create an 8 x 10" space for your composition on your sketchbook page. You do not have to fill the entire sketchbook page. However, you MUST fill the 8 x 10" space by creating a composition that breaks at least three sides of the "canvas."
3. Create a fully rendered 3-dimensional representation of an object/person/scene (no landscapes).
